Finnish Transport and Logistics SKAL is the representative body of Finnish road haulage and logistics companies as well as a transport industry expert in Finland and the European Union. We believe that good transport connections belong to everyone. Our contribution to logistics promotes the operating conditions of companies, security of supply and Finnish competitiveness.
Organisation
SKAL’s three-tier organisation serves member companies nationally. Our regional associations employ transport industry experts, our specialist organisations employ sector specialists, and our local associations are a key part of our advocacy network. Kuljetuskeskusten Liitto (association of transport centres) and Logistiikkayritysten Liitto (association of logistics companies) are associate members of the SKAL organisation.

International operation
SKAL has international influence through transnational networks. Our key partners include EU influencers, Nordic colleagues and the International Road Transport Union IRU. In Brussels, we are represented by FinMobility.

EU advocacy
Most of the legislation on transport, road logistics and the transport industry is laid down by the EU. SKAL actively influences the preparation and decision-making pertaining to EU legislation on the industry.
In EU-related advocacy, we engage in extensive cooperation with transport organisations’ permanent representatives based in Brussels. Our key partners include the permanent EU delegation of Finland, member state authorities, the IRU and national and international business organisations.
In addition, as a Finnish employer, we participate in the EU Commission’s social dialogue on the road transport industry and in the activities of the IRU Commission on Social Affairs. Our representatives also participate in the Brussels-based IRU Liaison Committee that represents EU member states’ organisations.
SKAL’s EU advocacy is primarily carried out through FinMobility.
Nordic cooperation
SKAL cooperates with Nordic transport and logistics organisations. We are an associate member of the Nordic Logistics Association (NLA).
SKAL engages in close cooperation with NLA representatives. As a representative of Finnish road logistics, we participate in the NORDUK meetings of the Nordic, Dutch and UK ministries of transport and heavy goods traffic organisations, and in the activities of the Nordic Road Association NVF.
In addition, we cooperate actively with individual Nordic transport organisations
IRU
The International Road Transport Union IRU comprises of 3.5 million members from over 100 countries. The union represents the entire transport industry, including buses, trucks and taxis.
SKAL is a member of the IRU.
